Yet the New Testament view is that He took our sin on Himself not because of sympathy, but because of His identification with us. He was \u201c<em>made<\/em>\u2026<em>to be sin<\/em>\u2026.\u201d Our sins are removed because of the death of Jesus, and the only explanation for His death is His obedience to His Father, not His sympathy for us. We are acceptable to God not because we have obeyed, nor because we have promised to give up things, but because of the death of Christ, and for no other reason. We say that Jesus Christ came to reveal the fatherhood and the lovingkindness of God, but the New Testament says that He came to take \u201caway the sin of the world!\u201d (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=John+1:29\">John 1:29<\/a>).<\/div>\n<div class=\"post-content\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"post-content\">And the revealing of the fatherhood of God is only to those to whom Jesus has been introduced as Savior. In speaking to the world, Jesus Christ never referred to Himself as One who revealed the Father, but He spoke instead of being a stumbling block (see\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=John+15:22-24\">John 15:22-24<\/a>).\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=John+14:9\">John 14:9<\/a>, where Jesus said, \u201cHe who has seen Me has seen the Father,\u201d was spoken to His disciples.That Christ died for me, and therefore I am completely free from penalty, is never taught in the New Testament.<\/div>\n<div class=\"post-content\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"post-content\">What is taught in the New Testament is that \u201cHe died for all\u201d (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=2+Corinthians+5:15\">2 Corinthians 5:15<\/a>)\u2014 not, \u201cHe died my death\u201d\u2014 and that through identification with His death I can be freed from sin, and have His very righteousness imparted as a gift to me. The substitution which is taught in the New Testament is twofold\u2014 \u201cFor He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, <em>that we might become the righteousness of God in Him<\/em>.\u201d The teaching is not Christ for me unless I am determined to have Christ formed in me (see\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Galatians+4:19\">Galatians 4:19<\/a>).<\/div>\n<div class=\"post-content\">______________________________________________________________<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<p>Journal DJR<br \/>\nGood Morning Lord,<br \/>\nThe more I understand your substitutionary death the more awesome it becomes. When I was a young Christian, I could see that it was a good deal. Now I see that it is a great deal. And as my experience and understanding expands &#8230; it just keeps getting better. Now you are teaching us that our striving to be better or quit bad habits is a waste of time. Well, maybe not a waste of time, but it certainly doesn&#8217;t work. Maybe there is value in that. Learning what doesn&#8217;t work, firsthand. After finding out that grunting and striving to be better doesn&#8217;t work&#8230;Now I&#8217;m at the place of finding what does work. And it seems to be to simply surrender and let your Spirit provide the power and the changes start to happen. Learning the aspects of the Surrendered Life is an exciting journey, because it has plenty of surprises.
