I just hope I\u2019ve done enough inner work to be able to present a balanced\npicture! &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ones are idealists, motivated and driven on by longing\nfor a true, just, and moral world. They are honest and fair and can spur others\nto work and mature and grow. They are often gifted teachers, but they have a\nhard time accepting imperfections\u2014other people\u2019s and, above all, their own.\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Starting back in their early years they internalized the\nvoices that demand: \u201cBe good! Behave yourself! Try hard! Don\u2019t be childish! Do\nit better!\u201d It is as if they had decided, even then, to earn the love of\neveryone around them by meeting such expectations and \u201cbeing good.\u201d Those\ndemanding voices within them never fall silent. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Type One children have renounced the development of their\nTrue Selves to please others (in my case, my mother) and earn the love of\npeople who have sent them the signal \u201cYou\u2019re okay only when you\u2019re perfect.\u201d\nOnes have the childhood driven out of them; too soon they have to act like\nadults. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The search for perfection is the specific temptation of\nOnes, and it rules their lives. Ones are always frustrated because life and\npeople are not what they should be. Ones are conscious of duty and\nresponsibility and are often compulsively punctual. They are serious people and\nseldom tell jokes. They allow themselves relaxation and recreation only when\nthey have thoroughly and completely finished their tasks. But that seldom\nhappens because there\u2019s always something or other that could be improved. Above\nall, Ones are disappointed by their own imperfection.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because the world is so imperfect, Ones can be resentful.\nAt the same time, they avoid acknowledging the anger that often motivates them.\nThey simply see it as another form of imperfection. They can barely perceive\ntheir own resentments (suppressed anger), but others generally recognize their\nsin much more readily than they do. That\u2019s one reason why they need to be in\nfellowship with other people. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The special virtue, or fruit of the spirit, that marks\nmature persons of any type is always the reverse of the root sin or passion.\nThe fruit of the spirit of the One is cheerful tranquility or serenity. I hope\nI live there now much of the time.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Don Richard Riso and Russ Hudson describe the emergence\nof Essence in Ones:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Deep down, Ones\nremember the essential quality of <em>perfection<\/em>.\nThey know that, at a profound level, the universe is unfolding exactly as it\nmust. (As in Julian of Norwich\u2019s famous dictum, \u201cAll will be well. Every manner\nof thing will be well.\u201d) . . . &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Staying with\nawareness releases a profoundly wise and discerning intelligence that\nilluminates all that [they] attend to. When Ones, through patient\nself-acceptance and open-mindedness, are able to relax enough to recognize that\nthis quality is, and always has been, available to them, they become the true\ninstruments of the Divine will that they have longed to be.
