Bear Rinehart of NEEDTOBREATHE\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/0ghypOJ6XW8?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Calling for Good Power<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p>Friday, September 12, 2025<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Richard Rohr encourages us to bring our contemplative minds to the question of power and act according to the gospel:&nbsp;<\/em>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Without the nondual mind, it\u2019s almost impossible for us to find another way of doing politics.<\/strong> <strong>Grounding social action in contemplative consciousness is not a luxury for a few but a cultural necessity. <\/strong>Both the Christian religion and American psyche need deep cleansing and healing from our many unhealed wounds. <strong>Only a contemplative mind can hold our fear, confusion, vulnerability, and anger and guide us toward love.<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Contemplative Christians can model a way of building a collaborative, compassionate politics. I suggest we start by reclaiming the wisdom of Trinity, a circle dance of mutuality and communion. <strong>Humans\u2014especially the powerful, the wealthy, and supporters of the patriarchal system\u2014are more comfortable with a divine monarch at the top of pyramidal reality. So Christians made Jesus into a distant, imperial God rather than a living member of divine-human relationship.<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Spiritual power is more circular or spiral, and not so much hierarchical. It\u2019s shared and shareable. God\u2019s Spirit is planted within each of us and operating&nbsp;<em>as<\/em>&nbsp;each of us (see Romans 5:5)! The Trinity shows that God\u2019s power is not domination, threat, or coercion. All divine power is shared power and the letting go of autonomous power.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>There\u2019s no seeking of&nbsp;<em>power over<\/em>&nbsp;in the Trinity, but only&nbsp;<em>power with<\/em>\u2014giving away and humbly receiving. <\/strong>This should have changed all Christian relationships: in churches, marriage, culture, and even international relations. Isaiah tried to teach such servanthood to Israel in the classic four \u201cservant songs.\u201d [1] <strong>But Hebrew history preceded what Christianity repeated: both traditions preferred kings, wars, and empires instead of suffering servanthood or leveling love.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since this is so ingrained in our psyche, we must work hard to dismantle systems of domination. I emphatically state, together with my fellow Christian elders and leaders:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>We believe our elected officials are called to public service, not public tyranny, so we must protect the limits, checks, and balances of democracy and encourage humility and civility on the part of elected officials\u2026.<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We reject\u202fany moves toward autocratic political leadership and authoritarian rule\u2026. Disrespect for the rule of law, not recognizing the equal importance of our three branches of government, and replacing civility with dehumanizing hostility toward opponents are of great concern to us. Neglecting the ethic of public service and accountability, in favor of personal recognition and gain often characterized by offensive arrogance, are not just political issues for us. They raise deeper concerns about political idolatry, accompanied by false and unconstitutional notions of authority. [2]&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What if we actually surrendered to the inner Trinitarian flow and let it be our primary teacher?<\/strong> Our view of politics and authority would utterly change. <strong>We already have all the power (<em>dynamis<\/em>) we need both within us and between us\u2014in fact, Jesus assures us that we are already&nbsp;<em>\u201cclothed<\/em>\u201d in it \u201cfrom on high<\/strong>\u201d (see Luke 24:49)!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>______________________________________________<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sarah Young Jesus Calling <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Rejoice in Me always! No matter what is going on, you can rejoice in your Love-relationship with M<\/strong>e. This is the secret of being content in all circumstances. So many people dream of the day when they will finally be happy: when they are out of debt, when their children are out of trouble; when they have more leisure time, and so on. While they daydream, their moments are trickling into the ground like precious balm spilling wastefully from overturned bottles.<strong><br>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Fantasizing about future happiness will never bring fulfillment, because fantasy is unreality. Even though I am invisible, I am far more Real than the world you see around you<\/strong>. My reality is eternal and unchanging. <strong>Bring your moments to Me, and I will fill them with vibrant Joy. <\/strong>Now is the time to rejoice in My Presence!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>RELATED BIBLE VERSES:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Philippians 4:4 (NLT)<\/strong><br><strong><em>4<\/em>&nbsp;Always be full of joy in the Lord. I say it again\u2014rejoice!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additional insight regarding Philippians 4:4: It seems strange that a man in prison would be telling a church to rejoice. But Paul&#8217;s attitude teaches us an important lesson: Our inner attitudes do not have to reflect our outward circumstances. Paul was full of joy because he knew that no matter what happened to him, Jesus Christ was with him. Several times in this letter Paul urged the Philippians to be joyful, probably because they needed to hear this. It&#8217;s easy to get discouraged about unpleasant circumstances or take unimportant events too seriously. If you haven&#8217;t been joyful lately, you may not be looking at life from the right perspective.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Philippians 4:12 (NLT)<\/strong><br><em>12<\/em>&nbsp;I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additional insight regarding Philippians 4:12: Paul could get along&nbsp;happily because he could see life from God&#8217;s point of view. He focused on what he was supposed to&nbsp;<em>do<\/em>, not what he felt he should&nbsp;<em>have<\/em>. Paul had his priorities straight, and he was grateful for everything God had given him. Paul had detached himself from the nonessentials so that he could concentrate on the eternal. Often the desire for more or better possessions is really a longing to fill an empty space in a person&#8217;s life. To what are you drawn when you feel empty inside? How can you find true contentment? The answer lies in your perspective, your priorities, and your source of power.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Psalm 102:27 (NLT)<\/strong><br><strong><em>27<\/em>&nbsp;But you are always the same;<\/strong><br><strong>&nbsp; &nbsp; you will live forever.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additional insight regarding Psalm 102:27: God our creator is eternally with us and will keep all his promises, even though we may feel alone. The world will perish, but God will remain.
