We won\u2019t be usable instruments for God. That\u2019s why Jesus commanded us to love. It\u2019s that urgent. It\u2019s that crucial.<br \/>\nTrue religion is radical; it cuts to the root (radix is Latin for root). It moves us beyond our \u201cprivate I\u201d and into the full reality of we. Jesus seems to be saying in the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7) that our inner attitudes and states are the real sources of our problems. We need to root out the problems at that deepest interior level. Jesus says not only that we must not kill, but that we must not even harbor hateful anger. He clearly begins with the necessity of a \u201cpure heart\u201d (Matthew 5:8) and knows that the outer behavior will follow. Too often we force the outward response, while the inward intent remains like a cancer.<br \/>\nIf we walk around with hatred all day, morally we\u2019re just as much killers as the one who pulls the trigger. We can\u2019t live that way and not be destroyed from within. Yet, for some reason, many Christians have thought it acceptable to think and feel hatred, negativity, and fear. The evil and genocide of both World War I and World War II were the result of decades of negative, resentful, and paranoid thinking and feeling among even good Christian people.<br \/>\nJesus tells us not to harbor hateful anger or call people names in our hearts like \u201cfool\u201d or \u201cworthless person\u201d (Matthew 5:22). If we\u2019re walking around all day thinking, \u201cWhat idiots!\u201d we\u2019re living out of death, not life. If that\u2019s what we think and feel, that\u2019s what we will be\u2014death energy instead of life force. We cannot afford even inner disconnection from love. How we live in our hearts is our real and deepest truth.<br \/>\nIn Matthew 5:44, Jesus insists that we love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us. Once we recognize that whatever we do in conscious, loving union with Reality is prayer, we can better understand what Paul means when he says, \u201cPray unceasingly\u201d (1 Thessalonians 5:17). If prayer is merely words or recitations, such constant prayer is impossible in any practical sense.<\/p>\n<p>_______________________________________________<\/p>\n<p>Sarah Young<\/p>\n<p>Jesus Calling, October 30, 2018<\/p>\n<p>I AM WITH YOU. I am with you. I am with you. Heaven\u2019s bells continually peal with that promise of My Presence. Some people never hear those bells because their minds are earthbound and their hearts are closed to Me. Others hear the bells only once or twice in their lifetimes, in rare moments of seeking Me above all else. My desire is that My \u201csheep\u201d hear My voice continually, for I am the ever-present Shepherd.<\/p>\n<p>Quietness is the classroom where you learn to hear My voice. Beginners need a quiet place in order to still their minds. As you advance in this discipline, you gradually learn to carry the stillness with you wherever you go. When you step back into the mainstream of life, strain to hear those glorious bells: I am with you. I am with you. I am with you.<\/p>\n<p><strong>ISAIAH 41: 10 NKJV; Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>JEREMIAH 29: 12\u2013 13; 2 Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. 13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>JOHN 10: 14, 27\u2013 28;\u00a0I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me\u2014My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.
