The secret goal of their continuous activities is to be acknowledged and\naffirmed from the outside. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Twos employ their many gifts to meet the needs of others,\ncaring for others\u2019 health, nourishment, education, and welfare. They impart a\nmeasure of acceptance and appreciation that can help people believe in their\nown value. Twos can share generously and will even give their \u201clast shirt\u201d for\nothers. They stand by friends and family when they have to endure suffering,\npain, or conflict. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some Twos recall that early on they had the feeling of\nhaving to support the emotional needs of other family members. They felt they\nhad to make themselves useful in order to be noticed and loved. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There may have been a role reversal between parent(s) and\nchild. The child had to \u201cmother\u201d the adults and deny some of their own\nlegitimate needs. The child got the message: \u201cI am loved when I am tender,\nunderstanding, ready to be helpful, and defer my own needs.\u201d But in this way\nthe child feels powerful, while grown-ups look weak and needy. This provides\nfertile soil for the sort of false pride that is the root sin of Twos. They\nsecretly look down on those whom they \u201cserve.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Like all of us, Twos want to be liked, but they also have\nan exaggerated desire for external validation. Twos happily spoil and look\nafter other people, even when unasked, but if their \u201ccare\u201d becomes burdensome\nor confining and others distance themselves instead of returning this \u201clove,\u201d\nthe Two feels betrayed and exploited.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The constant and great temptation of Twos is to help\nothers, and in this way they evade themselves and their own needs. When\nimmature Twos are hurt, they can suddenly stop being sweet and pliant and lash\nout. At such moments they are capable of doing frightful injury to the very\nperson they supposedly love above all. This is the shadow side of the Two\u2019s\nlove that may not be recognized at first glance.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Twos are healed and redeemed the more they experience God\nas the Real Lover and realize that true, selfless love only comes by sharing in\nGod\u2019s love. This insight leads through a moment of deep shame to genuine\nhumility. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Don Richard Riso and Russ Hudson describe what it\u2019s like\nfor Twos to return to their Essence:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On a very deep\nlevel, Twos remember the Essential quality of <em>unconditional love<\/em> and the omnipresence of love.\nWhen they remember their Essential nature and the Divine state that it mirrors,\nhealthy Twos are aware of the presence of love all around them, so there is\nquite literally nothing they need to get from anyone\u2014and nothing they can give.\n. . . This love is balanced, pure, and nourishing\u2014it allows the soul to relax\non a profound level.
