But at some point during childhood, the union and\nbeauty were seemingly broken. So, for much of their lives, Fours desperately\ntry to create an outer world of balance and symmetry. They put their gifts to\nwork to awaken a sense of beauty and harmony in their surroundings. They are\nhighly sensitive and almost always artistically gifted. They grasp the moods\nand feelings of other people and the atmosphere of places and events with\nuncanny precision. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fours reject the division of the world into \u201csacred\u201d and\n\u201cprofane.\u201d They are more at home in the realm of the unconscious, of symbols\nand dreams, than in the real world. Symbols help them to be with and express themselves.\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Like others in the Heart center, Fours draw their vital\nenergy from other people. Their life question is: \u201cWhat do you think of me? Do\nyou notice me? Do I catch your eye?\u201d Fours strive to be attractive in some way,\nto be exceptional, or, in some cases, to appear eccentric or exotic. Fours\navoid ordinariness. They may panic when expected to look or act like everyone\nelse. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The life of Fours is primarily shaped by longing\u2014for\nbeauty, for love, for something lost. They wish that the world and life would\nfit together into a harmonic whole. Fours face the temptation to strive\nfrantically for authenticity. Children, nature, and everything that radiates\noriginality awakens in them the longing for the simplicity and naturalness that\nthey lost at some point. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Their root sin or passion is envy. They see immediately\nwho has more style, talent, and original ideas. They constantly compare\nthemselves with others, although not necessarily in a selfish way. This\nawareness hones their own giftedness. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fours are better than most types at understanding and\nguiding people in psychic distress. They are not intimidated by the difficult,\ncomplicated, or dark feelings of others, since they themselves have lived\nthrough it all. They are perhaps the least scandalized by \u201csin\u201d in others\nbecause they have learned so much from disorder, asymmetry, suffering, and\nfailure.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Don Richard Riso and Russ Hudson write:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the process\nof transformation, Fours let go of a particular self-image\u2014that they are more\ninherently flawed than others, and that they are missing something that others\nhave. They also realize that there is nothing wrong with them; they are as good\nas anyone else. And if there is nothing wrong with them, then no one needs to\nrescue them. They are entirely able to show up for themselves and create their\nown lives. . . . At this stage, Fours no longer need to feel different or\nspecial, seeing that, indeed, the universe has created only one of them, and\nthat they are part of everything else\u2014not isolated and alone. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When Fours abide\nin their true nature, they are one with the ceaseless creativity and\ntransformation that are a part of the dynamics of Essence.
