Symeon believed humans had the capacity to experience God\u2019s presence directly. He visualized this union happening within the \u201cforce field\u201d of the Body of Christ. This cosmic embodiment is created both by God\u2019s grace and our response.<\/p>\n<p>Symeon\u2019s \u201cHymn 15\u201d from his collected Hymns of Divine Love beautifully names the divine union that God is forever inviting us toward. These mystical lines honestly say it all for me and move me to an embodied knowing, to a living force field wherein we will know mystical union on even the cellular level.<\/p>\n<p>We awaken in Christ\u2019s body<br \/>\nas Christ awakens our bodies,<br \/>\nand my poor hand is Christ, He enters<br \/>\nmy foot, and is infinitely me.<\/p>\n<p>I move my hand, and wonderfully<br \/>\nmy hand becomes Christ, becomes all of Him<br \/>\n(for God is indivisibly<br \/>\nwhole, seamless in His Godhood).<\/p>\n<p>I move my foot, and at once<br \/>\nHe appears like a flash of lightning.<br \/>\nDo my words seem blasphemous?\u2014Then<br \/>\nopen your heart to Him<\/p>\n<p>and let yourself receive the one<br \/>\nwho is opening to you so deeply.<br \/>\nFor if we genuinely love Him,<br \/>\nWe wake up inside Christ\u2019s body<\/p>\n<p>where all our body, all over,<br \/>\nevery most hidden part of it,<br \/>\nis realized in joy as Him,<br \/>\nand He makes us, utterly, real,<\/p>\n<p>and everything that is hurt, everything<br \/>\nthat seemed to us dark, harsh, shameful,<br \/>\nmaimed, ugly, irreparably<br \/>\ndamaged, is in Him transformed<\/p>\n<p>and recognized as whole, as lovely,<br \/>\nand radiant in His light<br \/>\nwe awaken as the Beloved<br \/>\nin every last part of our body. [1]<\/p>\n<p>For many of us, our Christmas celebrations will be a little (or a lot) smaller, but I hope no less joyful. I invite you to contemplate the wonder of Symeon\u2019s words.
